Psalm 78 Prayer for generational faithfulness

Faithful God,

Thank you for being Who you are.  Thank you for the many miracles you have done for your people and the ways in which you have guided them through the generations.  Thank you that you provide manna and meat in our physical and spiritual wildernesses.  You are our Rock; God Most High, you are our Redeemer.  You are merciful and powerful, beating back our enemies and putting them to everlasting shame. You chose us to be your servants and, through the generations, have given us spiritual leaders who have integrity of heart and abundant leadership skills.  You are so faithful to your people and we give you thanks and praise for that.  Where our hearts are hard toward you, give us new, soft hearts and spirits.  Where we willfully put you to the test or don't trust in your deliverance, realign our wills to your ways.  Give us hearts that are loyal to you and faithful to your covenant. Help us not to forget the true stories about our rich heritage.  Help us to continue to tell our children - to tell the rising generation - the great marvels of our God.  Help us to pass down your ways from one generation to the next, even to those not yet born.  Help every generation to set its hope in God and not forget your wonderful works, but to keep your commandments, to keep their hope and trust in you.  By the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.  Amen

3-4 We’ve heard true stories from our fathers about our rich heritage.

    We will continue to tell our children

    and not hide from the rising generation

    the great marvels of our God—

    his miracles and power that have brought us all this far.

For perpetuity God’s ways will be passed down

    from one generation to the next, even to those not yet born.

In this way, every generation will set its hope in God

    and not forget his wonderful works but keep his commandments.  (Psalm 78: TPT)

O my people, listen to me!

    Hear my instruction; soak up every word of what I am about to tell you.

I will open my mouth in parables;

    I will speak of ancient mysteries—

Things that we have heard about, things that we have known,

    things which our ancestors declared to us again and again.

We will not keep these things secret from their children;

    rather, we will tell the coming generation

All about the praise that is due to the Eternal One.

    We will tell them all about His strength, power, and wonders.

He gave His holy law to Jacob,

    His teaching to the people of Israel,

Which He instructed our fathers

    to pass down to their children

So that the coming generation would know them by heart,

    even the children who are not yet born,

So that they might one day stand up and teach them to their children,

 tell them to put their confidence and hope in God,

And never forget the wondrous things He has done.

    They should obey His commandments always

And avoid following in the footsteps of their parents,

    a hard-headed and rebellious generation—

A generation of uncultivated hearts,

    whose spirits were unfaithful to God.  (Psalm 78:1-8 VOICE)

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26 NIV)

1

My people, hear my teaching;

    listen to the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth with a parable;

    I will utter hidden things, things from of old—

things we have heard and known,

    things our ancestors have told us.

We will not hide them from their descendants;

    we will tell the next generation

the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,

    his power, and the wonders he has done.

He decreed statutes for Jacob

    and established the law in Israel,

which he commanded our ancestors

    to teach their children,

so the next generation would know them,

    even the children yet to be born,

    and they in turn would tell their children.

Then they would put their trust in God

    and would not forget his deeds

    but would keep his commands.

They would not be like their ancestors—

    a stubborn and rebellious generation,

whose hearts were not loyal to God,

    whose spirits were not faithful to him.

The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows,

    turned back on the day of battle;

10

they did not keep God’s covenant

    and refused to live by his law.

11

They forgot what he had done,

    the wonders he had shown them.

12

He did miracles in the sight of their ancestors

    in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.

13

He divided the sea and led them through;

    he made the water stand up like a wall.

14

He guided them with the cloud by day

    and with light from the fire all night.

15

He split the rocks in the wilderness

    and gave them water as abundant as the seas;

16

he brought streams out of a rocky crag

    and made water flow down like rivers.

17

But they continued to sin against him,

    rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.

18

They willfully put God to the test

    by demanding the food they craved.

19

They spoke against God;

    they said, “Can God really

    spread a table in the wilderness?

20

True, he struck the rock,

    and water gushed out,

    streams flowed abundantly,

but can he also give us bread?

    Can he supply meat for his people?”

21

When the Lord heard them, he was furious;

    his fire broke out against Jacob,

    and his wrath rose against Israel,

22

for they did not believe in God

    or trust in his deliverance.

23

Yet he gave a command to the skies above

    and opened the doors of the heavens;

24

he rained down manna for the people to eat,

    he gave them the grain of heaven.

25

Human beings ate the bread of angels;

    he sent them all the food they could eat.

26

He let loose the east wind from the heavens

    and by his power made the south wind blow.

27

He rained meat down on them like dust,

    birds like sand on the seashore.

28

He made them come down inside their camp,

    all around their tents.

29

They ate till they were gorged—

    he had given them what they craved.

30

But before they turned from what they craved,

    even while the food was still in their mouths,

31

God’s anger rose against them;

    he put to death the sturdiest among them,

    cutting down the young men of Israel.

32

In spite of all this, they kept on sinning;

    in spite of his wonders, they did not believe.

33

So he ended their days in futility

    and their years in terror.

34

Whenever God slew them, they would seek him;

    they eagerly turned to him again.

35

They remembered that God was their Rock,

    that God Most High was their Redeemer.

36

But then they would flatter him with their mouths,

    lying to him with their tongues;

37

their hearts were not loyal to him,

    they were not faithful to his covenant.

38

Yet he was merciful;

    he forgave their iniquities

    and did not destroy them.

Time after time he restrained his anger

    and did not stir up his full wrath.

39

He remembered that they were but flesh,

    a passing breeze that does not return.

40

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness

    and grieved him in the wasteland!

41

Again and again they put God to the test;

    they vexed the Holy One of Israel.

42

They did not remember his power—

    the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,

43

the day he displayed his signs in Egypt,

    his wonders in the region of Zoan.

44

He turned their river into blood;

    they could not drink from their streams.

45

He sent swarms of flies that devoured them,

    and frogs that devastated them.

46

He gave their crops to the grasshopper,

    their produce to the locust.

47

He destroyed their vines with hail

    and their sycamore-figs with sleet.

48

He gave over their cattle to the hail,

    their livestock to bolts of lightning.

49

He unleashed against them his hot anger,

    his wrath, indignation and hostility—

    a band of destroying angels.

50

He prepared a path for his anger;

    he did not spare them from death

    but gave them over to the plague.

51

He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,

    the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.

52

But he brought his people out like a flock;

    he led them like sheep through the wilderness.

53

He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;

    but the sea engulfed their enemies.

54

And so he brought them to the border of his holy land,

    to the hill country his right hand had taken.

55

He drove out nations before them

    and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;

    he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.

56

But they put God to the test

    and rebelled against the Most High;

    they did not keep his statutes.

57

Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless,

    as unreliable as a faulty bow.

58

They angered him with their high places;

    they aroused his jealousy with their idols.

59

When God heard them, he was furious;

    he rejected Israel completely.

60

He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,

    the tent he had set up among humans.

61

He sent the ark of his might into captivity,

    his splendor into the hands of the enemy.

62

He gave his people over to the sword;

    he was furious with his inheritance.

63

Fire consumed their young men,

    and their young women had no wedding songs;

64

their priests were put to the sword,

    and their widows could not weep.

65

Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,

    as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.

66

He beat back his enemies;

    he put them to everlasting shame.

67

Then he rejected the tents of Joseph,

    he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;

68

but he chose the tribe of Judah,

    Mount Zion, which he loved.

69

He built his sanctuary like the heights,

    like the earth that he established forever.

70

He chose David his servant

    and took him from the sheep pens;

71

from tending the sheep he brought him

    to be the shepherd of his people Jacob,

    of Israel his inheritance.

72

And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;

    with skillful hands he led them.  (Psalm 78 NIV)

Psalm 77 Prayer for our nation

El Shaddai and Adonai,

We hear the soul of this nation crying out.  The blood of those who died to begin and preserve her now cries out to you, All-Powerful God, for help.  The spirits of Christians all over this land cry out to you to hear us as we seek our Lord, stretching out untiring hands in the face of the attacks and darkness around us.  We remember, God, how you have guided men and women in the past; we remember and groan because the circumstances of today look so dark.  We think about the days and years of long ago, remembering the songs sung to you at night, and ask:  Will the Lord reject us today or will you show your favor again?  Has your unfailing love vanished from this nation and have you withdrawn your promises?  Have you forgotten to be merciful or, in your righteous anger, are you withholding your compassion upon this nation?  We remember your deeds in the past, your miracles of long ago.  Your ways, God are holy; there is no god as great as you.  You perform miracles and display your power among the people.  With your mighty arm you have redeemed your people and rescued them from storms of conflict, strife, and even war.  Just like you led the Israelites through the Red Sea, we cry out to you to create a safe path through this current storm of circumstances and chaos.  We beg you to lead your people deeply into your presence, into your holiness, and teach us your will and ways.  Instill in us a desire to live out your righteousness and speak your Truth into our circumstances.  Guard us as we cast off nonchalant and mediocre Christianity and religiosity and, instead, chase after you with full fervency.  Guard our faith, our finances, and our future.  Give us wisdom as to how to steward this nation that is divided and hurting so badly right now.  Break the power of the wickedness that is on our nation and uphold your righteous children.  We remember the many ways in which you provided good and godly leaders in our past, and we pray you will rise up a generation of good and godly leaders for such a time as now.  May there be Moseses, Joshuas, Esthers, Deborahs, Peters, Pauls, and many others who hear your voice and follow your leading as they boldly stand against the demonic forces at play today. May godly leaders and average people boldly stand for your Truth, Justice, and Righteousness.  By your Grace, may we remember our past, and may this nation be saved so it can be a beacon of Light for generations to come.  In the powerful name of Christ we pray, Amen.

The power of the wicked will be broken,
    but the Lord upholds the righteous. (Psalm 37:17 NIV)

I cried out to God for help;

    I cried out to God to hear me.

When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;

    at night I stretched out untiring hands,

    and I would not be comforted.

I remembered you, God, and I groaned;

    I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.[b]

You kept my eyes from closing;

    I was too troubled to speak.

I thought about the former days,

    the years of long ago;

I remembered my songs in the night.

    My heart meditated and my spirit asked:

“Will the Lord reject forever?

    Will he never show his favor again?

Has his unfailing love vanished forever?

    Has his promise failed for all time?

Has God forgotten to be merciful?

    Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”

10 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:

    the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.

11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;

    yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

12 I will consider all your works

    and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

13 Your ways, God, are holy.

    What god is as great as our God?

14 You are the God who performs miracles;

    you display your power among the peoples.

15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,

    the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

16 The waters saw you, God,

    the waters saw you and writhed;

    the very depths were convulsed.

17 The clouds poured down water,

    the heavens resounded with thunder;

    your arrows flashed back and forth.

18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,

    your lightning lit up the world;

    the earth trembled and quaked.

19 Your path led through the sea,

    your way through the mighty waters,

    though your footprints were not seen.

20 You led your people like a flock

    by the hand of Moses and Aaron. (Psalm 77 NIV)

I poured out my complaint to you, God.

    I lifted up my voice, shouting out for your help.

When I was in deep distress, in my day of trouble,

    I reached out for you with hands stretched out to heaven.

    Over and over I kept looking for you, God,

    but your comforting grace was nowhere to be found.

As I thought of you I moaned, “God, where are you?”

    I’m overwhelmed with despair as I wait for your help to arrive.

Pause in his presence

I can’t get a wink of sleep until you come and comfort me.

    Now I’m too burdened to even pray!

My mind wandered, thinking of days gone by—

    the years long since passed.

Then I remembered the worship songs I used to sing

    in the night seasons,

    and my heart began to fill again with thoughts of you.

    So my spirit went out once more in search of you.

Would you really walk off and leave me forever, my Lord God?

    Won’t you show me your kind favor, delighting in me again?

Has your well of sweet mercy dried up?

    Will your promises never come true?

Have you somehow forgotten to show me love?

    Are you so angry that you’ve closed

    your heart of compassion toward me?

Pause in his presence

10 Lord, what wounds me most is that it’s somehow my fault that

    you’ve changed your heart toward me

    and I no longer see the years of the Mighty One

    or your right hand of power.

11 Yet I could never forget all your miracles, my God,

    as I remember all your wonders of old.

12 I ponder all you’ve done, Lord, musing on all your miracles.

13 It’s here in your presence, in your sanctuary,

    where I learn more of your ways,

    for holiness is revealed in everything you do.

    Lord, you’re the one and only, the great and glorious God!

14 Your display of wonders, miracles, and power

    makes the nations acknowledge you.

15 By your glory-bursts you’ve rescued us over and over.

    Just ask the sons of Jacob or

    the sons of Joseph, and they will tell you!

    And all of us, your beloved ones, know that it’s true!

Pause in his presence

16 When the many waters of the Red Sea took one look at you,

    they were afraid and ran away to hide—

    trembling to its depths!

17 Storm clouds filled with water high in the skies;

    cloudbursts and thunderclaps announced your approach.

    Lightning-flashes lit up the landscape.

18 Rolling whirlwinds exploded with sonic booms of thunder,

    rumbling as the skies shouted out your story

    with light and sound and wind.

    Everything on earth shook and trembled as you drew near.

19 Your steps formed a highway through the seas

    with footprints on a pathway no one even knew was there.

20 You led your people forward by your loving hand,

    blessed by the leadership of Moses and Aaron. (Psalm 77 TPT)

Psalm 76 - A prayer for God's judgement and justice on wicked rulers

Awe-Inspiring God,

You are renowned from the East to the West, from the North to the South.  Yours is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor.  For everything in heaven and earth is yours, Lord.  Yours is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. God, you are so resplendent and radiant! Your majesty shines from your everlasting mountain and nothing could be compared to you in glory!  Even the mightiest of men have been paralyzed by your presence. They were so stunned and lifeless, not even the strongest one could lift a hand.  It is you alone who are to be feared.  Who can stand before you when you are angry?  You smash every weapon of war that comes against you.  From heaven you pronounce judgment, and the land fears and is quiet—when you, God, rise up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land. You have power to transform mankind’s futile anger into praise. The fury of your enemies only causes your fame to increase.  God, in this hour we pray you will break the spirit of evil rulers; break the power of the wicked.  Cause them to fear you as the Lord and King over all the earth.  Let them fall to their knees, holding their breath, as you thunder judgement upon their iniquities.  May your judgement and wrath against people who oppose or pervert your will and ways be seen upon the earth.  May those who speak rashly and promote evil come to ruin.  May repentant hearts turn from their wickedness and into restraint.  May those who guard their lips - who speak only of your Goodness, Truth, and Beauty - preserve their lives.  May all the peoples of this world know you as the Awesome One of Justice and Might.  In Christ's name we pray, Amen!

God is well known in the land of Judah.

    He is famous throughout Israel,

making his home in Jerusalem, living here on Mount Zion.

That’s where he smashes every weapon of war

    that comes against him.

    That’s where he uses the broken arrows

    as kindling for his mighty bonfire.

Pause in his presence

God, you are so resplendent and radiant!

    Your majesty shines from your everlasting mountain.

    Nothing could be compared to you in glory!

Even the mightiest of men have been paralyzed by your presence.

    They were so stunned and lifeless,

    not even the strongest one could lift a hand.

When Jacob’s God roared his rebuke,

    soldiers and their steeds all fell to the ground,

    stunned and lying still.

No wonder you are greatly feared! You are the awe-inspiring God!

    For who could ever stand before your face

    when your fierce anger burns and live to tell about it.

As the earth itself holds its breath in awe before you,

    judgment is decreed from heaven.

You arise to punish evil and defend the gentle upon the earth.

Pause in his presence

10 You have power to transform man’s futile anger into praise.

    The fury of your enemies only causes your fame to increase.

11 So you’d better keep every promise you’ve ever made

    to the Awesome One, Yahweh!

    Let all people bring their extravagant gifts to him alone.

12 He is famous for breaking the spirit of the powers that be.

    And the kings of the earth will know him as the Fearsome One! (Psalm 76 TPT)

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. (1 Chronicles 29:11, NIV)

Fierce you are, and fearsome!

    Who can stand up to your rising anger?

From heaven you thunder judgment;

    earth falls to her knees and holds her breath. (Psalm 76:7-8 MSG)

God is renowned in Judah;

    in Israel his name is great.

His tent is in Salem,

    his dwelling place in Zion.

There he broke the flashing arrows,

    the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.

You are radiant with light,

    more majestic than mountains rich with game.

The valiant lie plundered,

    they sleep their last sleep;
not one of the warriors
    can lift his hands.

At your rebuke, God of Jacob,

    both horse and chariot lie still.

It is you alone who are to be feared.

    Who can stand before you when you are angry?

From heaven you pronounced judgment,

    and the land feared and was quiet—

when you, God, rose up to judge,

    to save all the afflicted of the land.

10 Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise,

    and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.

11 Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them;

    let all the neighboring lands
    bring gifts to the One to be feared.

12 He breaks the spirit of rulers;

    he is feared by the kings of the earth. (Psalm 76 NIV)

"Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin."

(Proverbs 13:3 NIV)

"The power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous."  (Psalm 37:17 NIV)

Psalm 75 - God Will Judge Wickedness

True Judge,

We praise you, God, for your Name is near; we overflow with thanks.  Our hearts spill over with praise to you!  We tell of your wonderful deeds.  Your love reaches to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.  Your righteousness is higher than mountains and your justice deeper than the great deep.  We take shadow in your wings and you are the Light for our lives.  God, your Word says that you choose the appointed time to judge the world with fairness and impartiality and perfect righteousness.  You, who set the earth firmly on its pillars, say you will cause peoples' hearts to tremble as you shake the earth with your judgement. Your warnings to the arrogant and wicked seem to go unheeded; they resist and speak with stubborn pride, raising their fists against you.  Yet, we know that it is you who judge; you bring down one and exalt another because you are the True Judge. God, in these tumultuous times, we pray that the wicked will drink your foaming cup of judgement and fury to the last drop.  In these tumultuous times, when it seems like much of the earth and its inhabitants are melting, steady our foundations. Steady us in your Word, your Grace, and your Truth.  Empower us by Holy Spirit to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and his Love and Justice. We will declare your victory and sing praise to make you known.  May our praises break the powers of wickedness and may the righteous be promoted and become powerful because they are led by Holy Spirit!  In Jesus's name we pray, Amen!

We praise you, God,

    we praise you, for your Name is near;

    people tell of your wonderful deeds.

You say, “I choose the appointed time;

    it is I who judge with equity.

When the earth and all its people quake,

    it is I who hold its pillars firm.

To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’

    and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.

Do not lift your horns against heaven;

    do not speak so defiantly.’”

No one from the east or the west

    or from the desert can exalt themselves.

It is God who judges:

    He brings one down, he exalts another.

In the hand of the Lord is a cup

    full of foaming wine mixed with spices;

he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth

    drink it down to its very dregs.

As for me, I will declare this forever;

    I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,

10 who says, “I will cut off the horns of all the wicked,

    but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.”  (Psalm 75 NIV)

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,

    your faithfulness to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,

    your justice like the great deep.

    You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.

How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

    People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house;

    you give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

    in your light we see light.  (Psalm 36 NIV)

“The earth and all the inhabitants of it melt [in tumultuous times].

It is I who will steady its pillars." (Psalm 75:3 AMP)

God, our hearts spill over with praise to you!

    We overflow with thanks, for your name is the “Near One.”

    All we want to talk about is your wonderful works!

    And we hear your reply:

“When the time is ripe I will arise,

    and I will judge the world with perfect righteousness.

Though I have set the earth firmly on its pillars,

    I will shake it until it totters, and everyone’s hearts will tremble.”

Pause in his presence

God warns the proud, “Stop your arrogant boasting!”

    And he warns the wicked,

    “Don’t think for a moment you can resist me!

Why would you speak with such stubborn pride?

    Don’t you dare raise your fist against me!”

6–7 This I know:

    the favor that brings promotion and power

    doesn’t come from anywhere on earth,

    for no one exalts a person but God, the true judge of all.

    He alone determines where favor rests.

    He anoints one for greatness

    and brings another down to his knees.

A foaming cup filled with judgment mixed with fury

    is in the hands of the Lord Yahweh,

    full to the brim and ready to run over.

    He filled it up for the wicked, and they will drink it

    down to the very last drop!

But I will proclaim the victory of the God of Jacob.

    My melodies of praise will make him known.

10 My praises will break the powers of wickedness,

while the righteous will be promoted and become powerful!  (Psalm 75 TPT)

Psalm 74 - God will crush the enemies

Powerful Yahweh,

We worship you, with outstretched hands as our whole hearts erupt with praise!  We will tell everyone everywhere about your wonderful works!  We will be glad and shout in triumph, singing praise to your exalted name, O Most High.  You split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster and crushed the heads of dragons.  You opened up springs and streams and dried up the ever-flowing rivers.  You created the day, the night, the sun and moon; you set all the boundaries of the earth and the seasons. We are your very own people and, yet, in this day and age it can feel like you have abandoned us.  Remember the people you purchased by the blood of Christ so long ago.  Remember your beloved ones that you chose to bring out of slavery and bondage to sin.  Remember the ways in which you brought this nation into existence. Remember the many faithful people who wanted freedom to worship you in Spirit and in Truth, to live in relationship to you, and to create a just and honorable society based on your principles.  Remember your people who have served you and cried out in prayer, interceding for this nation through the generations. Do not leave us, God, or turn your back on those you love.  We are yours, your very own.  Your enemy - the enemy of our souls - seeks to crush us, your Church - to destroy us as a forest is chopped to the ground and destroyed.  Our enemy wants to eliminate every place where you have been present and worshipped - to eliminate your Goodness and Grace from every trace of the public and private sphere. But, you are our King and Conquerer!  You bring salvation and you give victory over evil.  Remember how the enemy has mocked you, Lord, how foolish people have reviled your name.  Do not hand over the life of your Church to evil beasts.   The darkness and violence haunt this land.  Rise up and defend your Name against the clamor of your adversaries.  With a blast of your rebuke, evil is destroyed and you obliterate their names forever and ever. You thunder and our enemies are cut off, vanished in everlasting ruins. All their strongholds are destroyed—but Yahweh, our mighty God, reigns forever!  In the powerful name of Christ we pray.  AMEN and AMEN!

Psalm 74: TPT

Are you really going to leave us, God?
    Would you turn your back on us, rejecting your people?
    We are yours, your very own.
    Will your anger smolder against us forever?
Don’t forget that we are your beloved ones.
    Wrap us back into your heart again, for you chose us.
    You brought us out of our slavery and bondage
    and made us your favored ones, your Zion-people,
    your home on earth.
Turn your steps toward this devastation.
    Come running to bring your restoring grace to these ruins,
    to what the enemy has done to devastate your Holy Place.
They have come into the very midst of your dwelling place,
    roaring like beasts, setting up their banners to flaunt their conquest.
Now everything is in shambles! They’ve totally destroyed it.
    Like a forest chopped down to the ground,
    there’s nothing left.
All of the beauty of the craftsmanship
    of the inner place has been ruined,
    smashed, broken, and shattered.
They’ve burned it all to the ground.
    They’ve violated your sanctuary,
    the very dwelling place of your glory and your name.
They boasted, “Let’s completely crush them!
    Let’s wipe out every trace of this God.
    Let’s burn up every sacred place where they worship this God.”
We don’t see any miraculous signs anymore.
    There’s no longer a prophet among us
    who can tell us how long this devastation will continue.
10 God, how much longer will you let this go on
    and allow these barbarians to blaspheme your name?
    Will you stand back and watch them get away with this forever?
11 Why don’t you do something?
    You have the power to break in,
    so why would you hide your great power from us?
    Don’t hold back! Unleash your might and give them a final blow.
12 You have always been, and always will be, my King.
    You are the mighty conqueror, working wonders all over the world.
13 It was you who split the sea in two by your glorious strength.
    You smashed the power of Tannin, the sea monster.
14 You crushed the might of Leviathan, the great dragon,
    then you took the crumbs and fed them to the sharks.
15 With your glory you opened up springs and fountains,
    then you spoke, and the ever-flowing springs of Jordan
    dried up so we could cross over.
16 You own the day and the night.
    Sunlight and starlight call you Creator.
17 The four corners of the earth were formed by your hands,
    and every changing season owes its beauty to you.
18 O Yahweh, don’t ever forget how these arrogant enemies,
    like fools, have mocked your name.
19 Lord, aren’t we your beloved dove that praises you?
    Protect us from these wild beasts who want to harm us.
    Don’t leave us as lambs among wolves!
    You can’t abandon us after all we’ve been through!
20 Remember your promises to us,
    for darkness covers the land,
    giving the violent ones a hiding place.
21 Don’t let these insults continue.
    Can’t you see that we are your downtrodden
    and oppressed people?
    Make the poor and needy into a choir of praise to you!
22 Don’t ignore these ignorant words, this continual mocking.
    Rise up, God; it’s time to defend yourself from all this.
23 Never forget what your adversaries are saying.
    For their rage and uproar rise continually against you.
    It’s time to stand up to them!

Psalm 74 NIV:

O God, why have you rejected us forever?

    Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?

Remember the nation you purchased long ago,

    the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed—

    Mount Zion, where you dwelt.

Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins,

    all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.

Your foes roared in the place where you met with us;

    they set up their standards as signs.

They behaved like men wielding axes

    to cut through a thicket of trees.

They smashed all the carved paneling

    with their axes and hatchets.

They burned your sanctuary to the ground;

    they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.

They said in their hearts, “We will crush them completely!”

    They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.

We are given no signs from God;

    no prophets are left,

    and none of us knows how long this will be.

10

How long will the enemy mock you, God?

    Will the foe revile your name forever?

11

Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand?

    Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!

12

But God is my King from long ago;

    he brings salvation on the earth.

13

It was you who split open the sea by your power;

    you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.

14

It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan

    and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.

15

It was you who opened up springs and streams;

    you dried up the ever-flowing rivers.

16

The day is yours, and yours also the night;

    you established the sun and moon.

17

It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth;

    you made both summer and winter.

18

Remember how the enemy has mocked you, Lord,

    how foolish people have reviled your name.

19

Do not hand over the life of your dove to wild beasts;

    do not forget the lives of your afflicted people forever.

20

Have regard for your covenant,

    because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.

21

Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace;

    may the poor and needy praise your name.

22

Rise up, O God, and defend your cause;

    remember how fools mock you all day long.

23

Do not ignore the clamor of your adversaries,

    the uproar of your enemies, which rises continually."

Psalm 9:1-2, 5-7 TPT

I will worship you, Yahweh, with extended hands
    as my whole heart erupts with praise![b]
    I will tell everyone everywhere about your wonderful works!
I will be glad and shout in triumph.
    I will sing praise to your exalted name, O Most High.

With a blast of your rebuke, nations are destroyed.
    You obliterated their names forever and ever.
The Lord thundered and our enemies have been cut off,
    vanished in everlasting ruins.
    All their cities have been destroyed—
    even the memory of them has been erased.

But Yahweh, our mighty God, reigns forever!
