Psalm 146: 3-5

Do not put your trust in princes,
    in human beings, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
    on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord
 their God.

God,

As we prepare to finalize the voting tomorrow, we pray that...
- you would continue to pour out your Spirit on this electorate
-  your wisdom would influence our choices of candidates for each office
- you would cause to be elected men and women after your own heart who seek your wisdom in their governing decisions
- there would be no voter fraud, no voter intimidation, and that each valid vote would be accurately counted
-  you would prevent any evil that seeks to stir up dissension, riots, or worse and that your peace would prevail
-  accurate election results - especially for the office of President - would be known by Wednesday morning
- you would knit together this nation - that we would be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all
- you would heal wounds in your Church which are a result of this strife and anger in our political system
- you would help us live out our calling to be one with you as you are one with the Father
- you would help us live as people whose hope is not in any human being, but in only you - our Lord God

In the powerful name of Jesus Christ we pray.
Amen and Amen.

Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
I will praise the Lord all my life;
    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Do not put your trust in princes,
    in human beings, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
    on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
    the sea, and everything in them—
    he remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
    and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
    the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
    the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner
    and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
    but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
10 The Lord reigns forever,
    your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord.

Lord God,

We pray for a Third Great Awakening to flow over this nation and this world.  We pray that your Spirit would cause hearts, minds, and souls to turn from sin, be drawn to you, and to seek your wisdom and way.  We pray you would transform our people, families, communities, nation, and world so we live the abundant life to which you call us.  Renew us in our day we pray.

Amen

Pray. Research. Pray. Vote.

God,

We pray for strength for those who are weary ...

- for residents on the East Coast whose lives have been turned upside down by the storm Sandy, for first responders and National Guard troops and others trying to help
- for citizens weary of this four year presidential campaign and its vitriol and negativity
- for citizens who no longer trust their government to be forthright when they see statistics "adapted," required economic reports unfiled, and no straight answers to why an Ambassador and his staff were killed in Bengazi
- for soldiers far from home, serving our nation but always in harm's way
- for veterans who have returned from war and are dealing with unemployment, disability, strain on relationships, PTSD, and many other problems

We pray you would cause us to hope in you for our strength.  Give us rest where we need rest, courage where we need to act, and wisdom to know the difference.   In the places you call us to go, help us to run and not be weary.

In Jesus' name,
Amen

Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint. (Isa. 40:28-31 NIV)

God,

Next week there will be multiple layers of elections.  In addition to elections for offices at the federal level, states are preparing to elect governors, judges, trustees, state legislatures, and others.  Local governments elect trustees, commissioners, school boards, treasurers, clerks, law enforcement officials, and others.  We pray that in every race across this nation you would cause to be elected men and women after your own heart.  We pray that there would be good governance at the local and state levels.  We pray for your wisdom to be upon these civic leaders that they may make good decisions for the good of the citizens.

Amen.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12 NIV).

God,

I pray for your Church - any and all Jesus-followers anywhere.  I pray as Jesus did: for our unity. I pray we would not let politics, economics, or any other earthly thing separate us.  Help us to seek you in prayer and in the Word of the Bible and help us to know your Truth in wherever life takes us. Bind us together in bonds of your love.

We pray in Jesus' name,
Amen
