Buckle on Hope


"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

In the beginning of 2022 is The Word - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit - the Living Expression of God's heart.  Through Him all things were made, including time, space, our world, each of us, and the plans He has for our future - a future with hope and abundance of life.  The Word is already in the next year - he goes before us and meets us there.  


Some people make New Year's Resolutions, but others ask God for a "Word" of the year.  Around Christmas 2019 I asked God for a word for my life for 2020 and received a very unexpected one - "Buckle."  What did "buckle" mean??  The only in the Bible is when we are told to buckle the Belt of Truth around our waists. (Ephesians 6:14)  


But, looking back over the last two years, "buckle" might have been the best word.  It's like God was telling me, "Buckle up because the world is about to change."  Sometimes we buckle up to prepare for a bumpy or dangerous ride.  I believe God was telling me to trust his buckle - his safety harness - for my life and provision in this time. 


I do not yet have "A Word" for 2022.  I have several that I have considered but they all seem to come out of my mind, not out of the Holy Spirit's leading for my life.  So, I will wait and listen.  Perhaps "buckle" is still in place because the bumpy and dangerous times aren't over yet. But God's seatbelt is still in place - and I am safe and secure because my faithful Heavenly Father holds me in the palms of his hands.

Almighty and Most High God,


Thank you for sheltering us and providing hope for us.  Thank you that when we abide in you, no terror, arrow, plague or pestilence can overtake us.  Thank you for. your promise that when we call on you you will answer, be present to us, deliver us, and give us long life and salvation. Thank you for the ways in which you've provided your children with a "buckle" in the past two years.  Thank you for your provision and strength in times of great trial.  Help us to trust you and your ways no matter what our circumstances.  Help us to trust you to provide all the things your children need, including hope for our future.  When we struggle to see your hope, remind us that your Light shines trough the darkness for all humanity and no darkness can overcome it.  At the beginning of 2022, reveal to each of us the unique word you have for us and help us to trust you in this new year.  In Jesus's name we pray, Amen.

March 19, 2021 Prayer - For Children, Education, and our Future

God of the Children and the Future,


You, Lord, are our God and we love you with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength.  From everlasting to everlasting, your Love is with those who fear you - who have reverential respect for you.  Thank you for the promise that those who seek you, who keep covenant with you, those who remember to obey you, will know your love and your righteousness.  Anointed One, you are always the same - yesterday, today, and forever, and you have plans for peace and well-being for our future.  Sometimes it is hard to see those good plans in the midst of the darkness of this world, but we believe that your plans and thoughts give us a future and a hope, both for this generation and for future generations.  We pray that both now and in the future we would see children as a blessing, a love-gift, and heaven's generous reward.  We pray that people not yet created may also praise the Lord. We know that you want all children to come to you so they can enter the Kingdom of God; help us to be people who do not hinder them, but instead encourage and bless these precious ones.   We pray that each child will be trained up in your Word and Ways, so that he/she seeks your wisdom and will for his/her talents and abilities.  We pray that they will fan into flame the gifts you have given them - in arts, sports, technology, healing, creating, communicating, and other areas - so that everything they do, in word and in deed, gives thanks and honor to you, their God. We pray for each and every person who helps to educate these generations.  May your deep and abiding wisdom be on parents and grandparents, family members, school board members, administrators, curriculum writers, teachers, aids, and other educational employees, coaches, mentors, pastors, and everyone else who helps to educate children.  No matter what church, activity, or educational system, at every level from preschool through higher education, may these precious ones be influenced only by godly and righteous Jesus-followers.  May that training and your hand on each of these children be so strong that they do not ever depart from your ways. As these beloved ones listen to you, may they grow in wisdom, may their hearts be drawn into understanding, and may they be empowered to make the right decisions.  God, may your Word be written deeply in their hearts and minds. May your truths be taught diligently to this generation and generations to come, so that they fear and serve only the Lord their God.  By your Holy Spirit, cause them not to follow other gods of this world, for we know you are a jealous God, demanding what is rightfully and uniquely yours.  We pray that the power of the wickedness of this generation will be broken over these young people. Lord God, protect them from abortion, addictions, ungodly activities, curses, divorce, poor and ungodly education, false accusation, unemployment, absentee parents, untimely death, human trafficking, neglect, mental and physical health struggles, lies of the enemy of our souls, prostitution and pornography, unrighteousness, power-hungry adults, violence, and so much more.  You promise us that no weapon formed against us will prosper and that your faithfulness will help us to not be tempted beyond our abilities. You tell us that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people. So, we pray that these children will be protected from the enemy's schemes, plots, and plans. Let them abide under the shadow of El Shaddai, and be hidden in the strength of God Most High.  You are the hope that holds them and the stronghold to shelter them, their great confidence who rescues them from every trap of the enemy.  Help them to delight in you and to be loyal to you.  Protect them from anything and everything that can keep them from you.  Answer their cries every time they pray; help them to feel your presence in times of trouble.  Deliver them and bring them honor. Satisfy them with all you are and help them enjoy the fullness of your salvation.  May their futures be bright and filled with a living hope that will never fade away.  We pray over this generation and generations to come in Jesus's name, Amen!

When you abide under the shadow of Shaddai,

    you are hidden in the strength of God Most High.

    and any deadly curse.

His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you.

    You can run under his covering of majesty and hide.

    His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm.

    nor have to fear a spirit of darkness coming against you.

Don’t fear a thing!

    Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble you,

    nor will the powers of evil be launched against you.

Even in a time of disaster, with thousands and thousands being killed,

    you will remain unscathed and unharmed.

You will be a spectator as the wicked perish in judgment,

    for they will be paid back for what they have done!

When we live our lives within the shadow of God Most High,

    our secret hiding place, we will always be shielded from harm.

    How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us?

11 

God sends angels with special orders to protect you wherever you go,

    defending you from all harm.

12 

If you walk into a trap, they’ll be there for you

    and keep you from stumbling.

13 

You’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness,,-

    trampling every one of them beneath your feet!

14 

For here is what the Lord has spoken to me:

    “Because you loved me, delighted in me, and have been loyal to my name,

    I will greatly protect you.

15 

I will answer your cry for help every time you pray,

    and you will feel my presence

    in your time of trouble.

    I will deliver you and bring you honor.

I will satisfy you with a full life and with all that I do for you.

February 4, 2021 Prayer - New Day, New Season, New Hope

Creating God,


Thank you for the new day you have given us.  Thank you that your great love, your compassions, and your faithfulness are new every morning.  Thank you for your invitation to seek you and wait quietly for you, our Lord.  Thank you that even when we cannot see or hear or understand what you are doing, we can trust your character - your faithfulness and your creativity - to be moving and working.  We boast in the hope we have in you because of the love you have poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.  Thank you that you have already provided a way where there seems to be only wilderness.  Thank you that where it seems we are about to drown in waters of unemployment, bills, fear, and hopelessness, you remind us that that you have promised to be with us so those waters won't sweep over us. Instead, we claim your promises for new jobs and new provision, in Jesus's name.  Thank you that when we feel like the fiery struggles in any and all relationships are too much, you promise that we will not be burned by those struggles. Instead, we claim your promises of peace and unity, in Jesus's name. Thank you that, when we feel lost in this "new world order," that you never lose us.  You are the Holy One, our Savior, and we praise you for your protection and guidance. Give us your holy courage and boldness and open the eyes of our hearts so we can see and perceive your calling for us.  Thank you that when we seek you with all our hearts, we will be found by you and when we feel we have lost our purpose or our mission, you provide the plans we need - plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future.  In this day and hour there is much fear and apprehension, so in Jesus's name we pray you would break the power of the spirit of fear so we can be released into hopefulness.  Help us to remember the "former things," as they remind us of your faithfulness, but not to dwell on the old.  Help us, instead, to trust your faithfulness and your plans for us - these New Things that you are doing in our lives.  Thank you for this call to the new day, new purpose, and new life you have for us in Jesus Christ.  We pray in his name, Amen and Amen!
