December 15, 2020 Prayer - State Legislators

Lord God, King of the Universe,

We thank you for setting up governmental units in this earth, just like you've set up the government of Christ's Kingdom.  Thank you that you intend this government for good - to extend and advance your Kingdom, including (especially) in the times and ways we may not be able to see what you are doing.  We pray today for state legislators who are trying to navigate the covid chaos and election chaos of this year, in addition to their regular responsibilities.  Forgive your people for their decades of not praying (enough) for these public servants.  They are elected to serve their constituents, and they navigate the complexities of balancing legislative duties, families, businesses, etc., so today we pray for their strength, protection, energy, and wisdom.  Give them strength to endure the challenges of this time and these circumstances.  Protect and encourage their spirits; if they are not followers of the Lord Jesus Christ bring to them people who can introduce them to the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and may your Spirit cause them to choose salvation and the Abundant Life.  Protect and encourage their businesses and their relationships with their families, their friends, their constituents.  May these relationships be a blessing and encouragement to them as they serve in the state capital.  Give them energy and fortitude to face the challenges of this day with graciousness, kindness, and courage, all while standing on your Truth.  May they have wisdom and discernment to know when, where, and how to speak and vote in ways that honor you.  May their decisions in the legislature continue to uphold the rule of law and seek righteousness and justice for our states and their peoples.  Give us help in knowing how to serve and hold these legislators before you in real, Christ-like love.  May these legislators be honorable, truthful, and godly so that we may lead peaceful, quiet, and dignified lives as citizens of this nation.  For your glory and honor we pray, Amen.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” 1 Timothy 2:2

"As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you.” 1 Samuel 12:23
